What kind of music do you perform? Bob & Joyce specialize in singing old-time gospel songs; some Southern Gospel, some Bill Gaither-type. They also include patriotic songs, especially around holidays, such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Christmas, and other appropriate days. For senior living communities, their program includes old-time popular hits such as "Ain't She Sweet?," "In The Good Old Summertime," and "Take Me Out To The Ball Game." These make great sing-along songs for the residents to enjoy. Joyce also plays a piano medley which usually leads into another opportunity for the residents to sing-along.
Might your program be a little too "religious" for some senior living communities? Bob & Joyce are sensitive to the variety of religious backgrounds of the residents. They do not perform a religous service, have prayer, or read from the Bible. They feel that is best left to the visits by members of the clergy and other church related volunteers. They have found that people of many different faiths enjoy gospel music, such as that seen in the popularity of the Gaither Homecoming Videos.
OK then, does that mean that church senior groups won't be ministered to? Is it just another "performance" or a form of Christian entertainment? Bob & Joyce are also sensitive to the church senior groups by singing the gospel songs that they love and enjoy. Telling funny stories and good natured jokes about seniors adds to the delight of the group. Bob & Joyce sing the songs and give programs that are fun and uplifting. Again, preaching, Bible study, and devotions are best left to the pastors and church leaders.
How many concerts do you usually give in a year's time? In 2004, Bob & Joyce were blessed with 87 paid concerts for church senior groups and senior living facilities. In 2005, more than 120 were performed for the year. In 2006, 2007, and 2008, another 120 per year. For 2009 we have booked about 60 already. (Please click on "Date Book" page for details.)
How much do you charge? Senior living, retirement, and nursing homes have strict budgets for what they call entertainment. Bob & Joyce's fees are based on their budgets. However, churches are much more generous.
